A living room is a multifunctional room. This means that at any given time, there is usually someone occupying that space. If you haven’t changed up this area for a while, it can feel a little tired or washed out. This usually means that it is time for a renovation. This does not warrant a total makeover, however. You do not have to pull down walls to achieve the effect that you are looking for. A few fixtures here and there and a splash of paint will be more than enough. Here are a few tips for freshening up this room:

Coat of Paint
This is one of the easiest ways to make the room look totally different in a matter of hours. Of course, the difficult thing here is to choose which shade goes best with the room. You need to think about the atmosphere that you are trying to create. If you want something that is a little more relaxed and inviting, you may want to consider warmer, darker hues. However, if you are looking for something bright and cheerful, opt for lighter, cooler shades instead. If you are having a hard time choosing between the two, you can always opt for neutrals.
If you have ever flipped through a decorating magazine, one of the features that probably caught your eye were gas fireplaces. If this is something that you have been considering for a while, you should definitely get it installed. This is because such a fixture works well with a variety of scenarios. Regardless of whether you are trying to create a rustic and classic environment or a classier atmosphere, a fireplace is ideal. The great part about this fixture is that it is also functional. When the temperature begins to drop, all you have to do is turn it on and warm yourself right up.
Change Your Furniture
You have probably spent a lot of money on your furniture, so clearly you are not sold on the idea of swapping out your furniture now. Well, the good news is that you do not have to throw away all of chairs, tables, and couches. All of you have to do is to revamp them a little. For instance, you may want to consider changing the fabric on the couches and chairs. If you have a theme that is all wood, you can paint your furniture instead. If your furniture is predominantly dark wood, for example, why not paint it white. You will look like you have gone out and purchased entirely new belongings.
Black and White
Have you always dreamt of having an incredibly minimalistic, modern living room? It is actually easier than you think. All of you have to do is swap out your colors for black and white instead. Use these shades throughout the room, using each to hue to balance each other out. You may also want to remove some of your ornaments or knick knacks out of the room if you are hoping for something that looks a little more Spartan.
